Fall 2013 Samuel Eilenberg Lecture Series by Prof. Joe Harris

Prof. Joe Harris (Harvard University) will give a weekly lecture every Friday during the Fall 2013 semester for the Samuel Eilenberg Lecture Series. The lectures begin on Friday, September 6, 2013.

Title: Parameter Spaces in Algebraic Geometry

Abstract: One of the most fundamental aspects of algebraic geometry is the existence of parameter spaces: in other words, the fact that certain classes of objects (for example, curves of given degree and genus in projective space) are themselves naturally parameterized by other varieties and schemes. The presence of these parameter spaces enriches the subject tremendously, both helping us frame questions about varieties and giving us tools to answer them. In this series of talks, we’ll explore this idea, focusing on examples and open problems.

Time: 12pm – 1pm

Venue: Room 312 Math
