The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scitech.ac.uk\/resources\/pdf\/delplan_07.pdf\">STFC document<\/a> laying out its plans through 2012 emphasizes CERN and the LHC, and has this to say about the ILC:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>We will cease investment in the International Linear Collider.   We do not see a practicable path towards the realisation of this facility as currently conceived on a reasonable timescale.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>In combination with recent remarks from the DOE, the current situation of the ILC proposal is not encouraging.  Most likely it will require the discovery of new physics at the LHC of the sort that the ILC is the right tool to study in order to make the case for going ahead with it.<\/p>\n<p>More about this <a href=\"http:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/news\/main.jhtml?xml=\/news\/2007\/12\/11\/nteach411.xml\">here<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/physicsworld.com\/cws\/article\/news\/32163\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Update<\/strong>:  More <a href=\"http:\/\/www.andrewjaffe.net\/blog\/science\/000332.html\">here<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/chrislintott.net\/2007\/12\/11\/stfcs-plans\/\">here<\/a>,  <a href=\"http:\/\/www.strudel.org.uk\/blog\/astro\/000743.shtml\">here<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nature.com\/news\/2007\/071211\/full\/news.2007.366.html\">here<\/a>.
