{"id":586,"date":"2007-08-19T10:17:00","date_gmt":"2007-08-19T15:17:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.math.columbia.edu\/~woit\/wordpress\/?p=586"},"modified":"2018-02-01T17:20:54","modified_gmt":"2018-02-01T22:20:54","slug":"message-to-our-overlords","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.math.columbia.edu\/~woit\/wordpress\/?p=586","title":{"rendered":"Message to Our Overlords"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It turns out that the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fhi.ox.ac.uk\/\">Future of Humanity Institute<\/a> has a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.overcomingbias.com\/\">blog<\/a>, and I&#8217;m being attacked <a href=\"http:\/\/www.overcomingbias.com\/2007\/08\/pseudo-criticis.html\">there<\/a> by Robin Hanson for my criticism <a href=\"http:\/\/www.math.columbia.edu\/~woit\/wordpress\/?p=583\">here<\/a> of the &#8220;Simulation Argument&#8221; as not science and not belonging in the NYT Science Times.  In the NYT article Hanson discusses what survival strategies we should pursue in order to try and convince the Overlords of our simulation to keep us around.<\/p>\n<p>In the comments here and on <a href=\"http:\/\/pixnaps.blogspot.com\/2007\/08\/scientism.html\">other blogs<\/a>, Hanson and his supporters have been criticizing me for refusing to spend time answering their arguments.
