{"id":5591,"date":"2013-03-03T12:25:39","date_gmt":"2013-03-03T17:25:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.math.columbia.edu\/~woit\/wordpress\/?p=5591"},"modified":"2013-03-04T10:13:51","modified_gmt":"2013-03-04T15:13:51","slug":"quick-links-12","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.math.columbia.edu\/~woit\/wordpress\/?p=5591","title":{"rendered":"Quick Links"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This should be a month with quite a bit of experimental news, including<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Latest Higgs news from the LHC experiments <a href=\"http:\/\/webcast.in2p3.fr\/live\/rencontres_de_moriond_2013\">here<\/a> on Wednesday.<\/li>\n<li>Release of data from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ams02.org\/\">AMS-02<\/a> was advertised as &#8220;two to three weeks away&#8221; back on February 17.<\/li>\n<li>Planck <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rssd.esa.int\/index.php?project=planck\">data release<\/a> on March 21.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A couple weeks ago, Arianna Borrelli of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lhc-epistemologie.uni-wuppertal.de\/\">Epistemology of the LHC<\/a> project gave a <a href=\"http:\/\/indico.cern.ch\/conferenceDisplay.py?confId=232108\">talk at CERN<\/a> (slides <a href=\"http:\/\/indico.cern.ch\/materialDisplay.py?materialId=slides&#038;confId=232108\">here<\/a>).  It includes some interesting data from surveys of HEP physicists in September 2011 and September 2012.  <\/p>\n<p>The Simons Foundation website keeps having some of the best writing on math and physics around.  Natalie Wolchover has an <a href=\"https:\/\/simonsfoundation.org\/features\/science-news\/in-computers-we-trust\/\">excellent story<\/a> about a complex subject, that of the role of computers in proof.  The also have an <a href=\"https:\/\/simonsfoundation.org\/home\/shadows-of-evidence\/\">essay by Barry Mazur<\/a> about another complicated related subject, the nature of evidence in mathematics.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, if you want to watch a very good introduction to D-modules, see video from David Ben-Zvi at MSRI <a href=\"http:\/\/www.msri.org\/web\/msri\/online-videos\/-\/video\/showVideo\/16169\">here<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.msri.org\/web\/msri\/online-videos\/-\/video\/showVideo\/16173\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Update<\/strong>: Edward Witten will be speaking here in New York this evening (Monday March 4) at Hunter College, for more information see <a href=\"http:\/\/events.cuny.edu\/eventDetail.asp?EventId=40688\">here<\/a>.
