This is a huge collection, which I recently ran across when trying to locate something by <a href=\"http:\/\/owpdb.mfo.de:4579\/detail?photoID=5947\">Graeme Segal<\/a>.  It also includes a photo of a <a href=\"http:\/\/owpdb.mfo.de:4579\/detail?photoID=5939\">frequent contributor here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The AMS has put quite a few whole books on-line.  Recently they added the three-volume set <i>A Century of Mathematics in America<\/i> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ams.org\/online_bks\/\/hmath1\/\">here<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ams.org\/online_bks\/\/hmath2\/\">here<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ams.org\/online_bks\/\/hmath3\/\">here<\/a>.  Another interesting volume is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ams.org\/online_bks\/\/hmbrowder\/\">Mathematics into the Twenty-First Century<\/a>, which includes some wonderful survey articles, including a very long series on Lie theory by Roger Howe, and one on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ams.org\/online_bks\/hmbrowder\/hmbrowder-witten.pdf\">Geometry and Quantum Field Theory<\/a> by Witten.<\/p>\n<p>Terrance Tao has a sort of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.math.ucla.edu\/~tao\/whatsnew.html\">research blog<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In the category of interesting-looking work that I haven&#8217;t yet had time to read carefully and think about, here are two papers on an approach to studying pure Yang-Mills theory, by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.arxiv.org\/abs\/hep-th\/0604185\">Freidel<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.arxiv.org\/abs\/hep-th\/0604184\">Freidel and collaborators<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><b>Update<\/b>:  A correspondent suggests I mention another <a href=\"http:\/\/owpdb.mfo.de:4579\/detail?photoID=5349\">famous mathematician<\/a> whose photo is on the Oberwolfach site.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>If you just can&#8217;t get enough of pictures of mathematicians, head over to the Oberwolfach Photo Collection.
