{"id":269,"date":"2005-09-30T17:34:58","date_gmt":"2005-09-30T21:34:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.math.columbia.edu\/~woit\/wordpress\/?p=269"},"modified":"2005-10-18T09:07:50","modified_gmt":"2005-10-18T13:07:50","slug":"assorted-links","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.math.columbia.edu\/~woit\/wordpress\/?p=269","title":{"rendered":"Assorted Links"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Some assorted things I&#8217;ve run across recently that may be of interest:<\/p>\n<p>Talks from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www-group.slac.stanford.edu\/sluo\/meeting\/2005-annual\/SLUO_Annual_Meeting_2005.html\">annual meeting<\/a> of the SLAC Users Organization.<\/p>\n<p>A dialogue between Barry Mazur and Peter Pesic about <a href=\"http:\/\/www.math.harvard.edu\/~mazur\/preprints\/MazurXPesicXdialogueXprelim.pdf\">imagination and mathematics<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>An Op-Ed piece in today&#8217;s New York Times by my colleague Brian Greene called <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2005\/09\/30\/opinion\/30greene.html\">That Famous Equation and You<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Some <a href=\"http:\/\/groups.google.com\/group\/sci.physics.research\/msg\/67c00d43e89746ea?hl=en&#038;\">sensible comments<\/a> by John Baez about string theory.<\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"http:\/\/www.arxiv.org\/abs\/hep-th\/0509129\">survey of the state of string field theory<\/a> by Leonardo Rastelli.<\/p>\n<p>A &#8220;description of some important issues in supersymmetry and string phenomenology&#8221; entitled <a href=\"http:\/\/www.arxiv.org\/abs\/hep-th\/0509157\">Twenty-five Questions for String Theorists<\/a>.  The authors think these questions may have answers that will help connect string theory and phenomenology, although this seems to me unlikely.  Serkan Cabi also has some <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mit.edu\/people\/cabi\/blog\/2005\/09\/twenty-five-questions-for-string.html\">comments<\/a> on this paper.<\/p>\n<p>An <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nybooks.com\/articles\/18350\">article about Feynman<\/a> by Freeman Dyson in the latest New York Review of Books.<\/p>\n<p>A talk about <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nikhef.nl\/recfa\/Presentations\/RECFAEricLaenen.ppt\">theoretical physics in the Netherlands<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><b>Update:<\/b>  One more, a report by Paul Cook on an <a href=\"http:\/\/ppcook.blogspot.com\/2005\/10\/topological-mass-generation.html\">interesting talk by Roman Jackiw<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Some assorted things I&#8217;ve run across recently that may be of interest: Talks from the annual meeting of the SLAC Users Organization.
