{"id":205,"date":"2005-06-10T12:57:02","date_gmt":"2005-06-10T16:57:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.math.columbia.edu\/~woit\/wordpress\/?p=205"},"modified":"2005-06-10T12:57:02","modified_gmt":"2005-06-10T16:57:02","slug":"multiverse-string-theory-and-templeton","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.math.columbia.edu\/~woit\/wordpress\/?p=205","title":{"rendered":"Multiverse, String Theory and Templeton"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A couple months ago when I was shocked to realize how <A href=\"http:\/\/www.math.columbia.edu\/~woit\/blog\/archives\/000179.html\">close to reality<\/A> my <A href=\"http:\/\/www.math.columbia.edu\/~woit\/blog\/archives\/000176.html\">April Fool&#8217;s parody<\/A> had been, I&#8217;d unsuccessfully tried to find out some more information about the Templeton conference at Stanford that Mark Trodden had mentioned here. There&#8217;s now something about it on the Templeton website.  It was part of Templeton&#8217;s  <A href=\"http:\/\/www.templeton.org\/science_and_religion\/humbleapproach.asp\">Humble Approach Initiative<\/A> which has as its goal &#8220;to bring about the discovery of new spiritual information.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The conference was called <A href=\"http:\/\/www.templeton.org\/multiverse4\/index.htm\">Multiverse and String Theory: Toward Ultimate Explanations in Cosmology<\/A>, and brought together various landscapeologists (including most of the Stanford theory group).  One of the other participants was <A href=\"http:\/\/scibel.gospelcom.net\/content\/testimonies.php?id=5\"> the Rev. Dr. Rodney Holder<\/A>,  an Anglican priest who believes that science supports Christian belief, and that &#8220;modern cosmology has reinvigorated the traditional argument for the existence of God from design&#8221;.
