{"id":188,"date":"2005-04-28T16:43:58","date_gmt":"2005-04-28T20:43:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.math.columbia.edu\/~woit\/wordpress\/?p=188"},"modified":"2005-04-28T16:43:58","modified_gmt":"2005-04-28T20:43:58","slug":"frist-filibuster","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.math.columbia.edu\/~woit\/wordpress\/?p=188","title":{"rendered":"Frist Filibuster"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>For the last couple days students at Princeton have been protesting the Republican&#8217;s plan to invoke the &#8220;nuclear option&#8221; and stop Democrats from filibustering a small number of Bush&#8217;s judicial nominees.  This protest has taken the form of organizing a &#8220;filibuster&#8221; in front of the Frist Campus Center at Princeton,   which was underwritten by Senator Bill Frist (Princeton &#8217;74).  Today Edward Witten and his wife, physicist Chiara Nappi, have <A href=\"http:\/\/mcdfa.org\/?q=frist2\">joined the protest<\/A>.  I can&#8217;t tell what Chiara is reading from, but Ed is using a bullhorn to regale the crowd with passages from <A href=\"http:\/\/www.wiley.com\/WileyCDA\/WileyTitle\/productCd-0471603864.html\">Introduction to Elementary Particles<\/A> by David Griffiths.<\/p>\n<p>Many thanks to my correspondent who wrote to me today to tell me about this.<\/p>\n<p>Update: It seems that Josh Marshall of the Talking Points Memo weblog had <A href=\"http:\/\/www.talkingpointsmemo.com\/archives\/week_2005_04_24.php#005552\">something to do with this<\/A>.
