Should be several interesting talks, see <a href=\"https:\/\/indico.math.cnrs.fr\/event\/11422\/timetable\/\">here<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>There&#8217;s an ongoing conference at the KITP on the topic of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kitp.ucsb.edu\/activities\/strings24\">What is String Theory?<\/a> So far, none of the <a href=\"https:\/\/online.kitp.ucsb.edu\/online\/strings24\/\">online talks<\/a> address that issue. Evidently there was a discussion of the topic last Wednesday, but not recorded. Were any readers here in attendance and willing to report on that event? Next chance to find out what string theory is will be a Monday Blackboard Lunch talk by Gopakumar.<\/li>\n<li>In April there will be an IUT conference hosted by Zen University in Tokyo, see <a href=\"https:\/\/zen-univ.jp\/en\/iugc\/activities\/events\">here<\/a>. All the speakers but one are from RIMS. For news from the senior people devoted to IUT, Ivan Fesenko has <a href=\"https:\/\/en.westlake.edu.cn\/news_events\/westlakenews\/Faculty_Staff\/202401\/t20240118_36677.html\">moved to Westlake University<\/a> in Hangzhou, and Shinichi Mochizuki is has been blogging <a href=\"https:\/\/plaza.rakuten.co.jp\/shinichi0329\/diary\/202401020000\/\">here<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>There&#8217;s a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chinadaily.com.cn\/a\/202401\/04\/WS65960bdda3105f21a507a7ed.html\">new Shanghai Institute for Mathematics and Interdisciplinary Science<\/a>, headed by Shing-Tung Yau.<\/li>\n<li>For those following what happens with the small number of permanent positions in particle theory, news from <a href=\"https:\/\/4gravitons.com\/2024\/01\/19\/well-that-didnt-work\/\">4 gravitons<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Update<\/strong>: One more, which I&#8217;m quite interested in.
