GIT stability of weighted pointed curves -- David Swinarski, January 25, 2008

I will discuss my recent proof that smooth curves with distinct marked points are asymptotically Hilbert stable with respect to a wide range of parameter spaces and linearizations. In the talk I'll relate this proof to previous work by Mumford, Gieseker, Baldwin and myself; (gently) illustrate how the proof works in an example; explain how the result is useful for constructing moduli spaces; and hint at what else these techniques might be good for.
