The algebraic complexity of singularities of varieties -- Nero Budur

A topological invariant of singularities is, for example, the Milnor fiber. An algebraic invariant is the mixed Hodge structure on the Milnor fiber. We describe various approaches to understanding the algebraic complexity of singularities and the relations among them. Some of this is joint work with M. Saito and M. Mustata.
