Participant Information

 

Some general information that may be of use to conference attendees.

The conference will take place in Columbia University's Northwest Corner Building, Room 501. To enter the building, you may use the main entrance located at the corner of Broadway and 120th Street.  Follow the stairs/escalators up to the fifth floor. If entering from the campus side (courtyard area), you will come in to the building on the 4th floor.

The conference reception will take place at The Italian Academy, located on the east side of Columbia's campus on Amsterdam Ave between 116th and 118th street, at 5.15 on Monday. For directions and information, visit http://www.italianacademy.columbia.edu/contact.html.

The conference dinner will take place at the Princeton Club of New York in midtown Manhattan. For directions and information, visit http://www.princetonclub.com. The event starts with a reception at 6.30pm on Thursday. If you registered for the dinner please pick your ticket at the registration desk before Tuesday noon. Please let us know any dietary requirements.

Hotel Information

 

Off-Campus Accommodation

NOTE: The time period to request space at the group discount rate has expired. You may still call the Milburn Hotel listed below, but we no longer can guarantee room availability and/or price.

The conference has arranged for a group discount on lodging at the Milburn Hotel. The Milburn Hotel is located at 242 West 76th St, New York, NY 10023 (see map below). This is approximately 15 minutes from the Mathematics Building via the 1 local subway. To reserve a room at the discounted rate, call the reservations desk at 212-362-1006, and ask for Albert (note that you will need to call between the hours of 8am - 4pm EST). Albert will work with you to secure a room for the nights that you require. Depending on room type and availability, the discounted rate will range from $205 - $255 per night, plus tax.

On-Campus Accommodation
Thanks to our sponsors, we can offer free accommodation on campus for a limited number of participants. Please use the corresponding field in the registration form to apply for such an accommodation.
On-campus accommodation is intended mainly for junior participants and consists of private rooms (dorm-style, two rooms share one bathroom) located in the Carman building on Columbia's campus.
Please note that these rooms will be available from Monday to Friday ONLY. In particular, participants requiring accommodation for the night before the beginning of the conference are asked to make their own arrangements. Websites such as bedandbreakfast.com and hostelworld.com can be useful to find budget accommodation.

 

Directions to campus

 

From the hotel:
Walk north on Broadway until you reach the 79th street subway station (3 blocks). Enter the subway on the East side of Broadway, heading to "Uptown " the Bronx" (note that the other entrance is "Downtown", which heads the opposite direction). Take the 1 train to 116th Street - Columbia University (5 stops). Exit to street level via the either set of stairs on the right.

From the airport:
From LaGuardia: Taxi service is available to the campus (about $25 - $30, not including tax, tip, tolls, etc.). Request that the cab drop you off at 116th Street and Broadway, as this is the main entrance to campus. If you are renting a car, take the Grand Central Parkway west to the Triborough/RFK Bridge ($5.50 cash toll), to Manhattan. Follow 125th Street westward 12 blocks to Broadway. Turn left onto Broadway, which is under an elevated subway structure and continue south to 116th Street. University main gate is on the left. The main gate is not open to vehicular traffic.

From John F. Kennedy: Taxi service is available to the campus (at a flate rate of $45, not including tax, tip, tolls, etc). Request that the cab drop you off at 116th Street and Broadway, as this is the main entrance to campus. If you are renting a car, take the Van Wyck Expressway (I-678) northeast to the Grand Central Parkway (Exit 10) toward La Guardia Airport and the Triborough/RFK Bridge. Cross the bridge ($5.50 cash toll) into Manhattan. Follow 125th Street westward 12 blocks to Broadway, which is under an elevated subway structure. Turn left onto Broadway and continue south to 116th Street. University main gate is on the left. The main gate is not open to vehicular traffic.

By train or bus
Trains to New York arrive at Grand Central Station or Pennsylvania Station; buses stop at the Port Authority Bus Terminal. Visitors arriving at these stations can take either public transportation or a taxi north to the campus. Five bus lines (M4, M5, M11, M60, M104) and one subway line (the No. 1 local) serve the Columbia neighborhood. The Columbia stop for the buses and the subway is 116th Street. The M60 bus is a direct link between campus and LaGuardia Airport. Do not use the Nos. 2 and 3 express subway trains, which follow a different route and do not stop at Columbia University. If you take the No. 2 or 3, transfer at 96th Street to the No. 1 local train.
