Group Actions and Automorphisms of Riemann Surfaces

Matt DeLand will give the talk on Monday, April 25 at 4:15 in Math 528. This lecture will be open to all.

Abstract: For X a compact Riemann Surface, I will show that the number of automorphisms of X is a finite group. Further, I will discuss the action of a finite group G on X. The quotient space X/G has a natural Riemann Surface structure, and hopefully there will be time to show that the order of a group acting on X is bounded by a linear function of the genus. Specifically, this will bound the number of automorphisms of X.
