Schubert varieties under a microscope -- Sara Billey

Schubert varieties in both the Grassmannian and the complete flag variety are very well understood objects. However, new results continue to emerge as we look carefully at their structure in ever finer detail. In this talk, we will discuss some of the nice properties of Schubert varieties that are determined by combinatorial data. We will outline a concrete approach to computing with Schubert varieties and discuss the tools of pattern avoidance, the Bruhat graph, the Bruhat poset, and permutation arrays.
