Triangulations of the sphere and degenerations of K3 surfaces

A result of W. Thurston says that the triangulations of S^2 are
parametrized by elements of positive norm in a certain lattice
over the Eisenstein integers. I will discuss this result from
the perspective of degenerations of K3 surfaces.
