Hecke tangents and Hitchin discriminants

We will discuss joint work with S. Ramanan on
 the moduli of stable bundles over a smooth projective curve.
 The main result is a duality relation between the variety of tangent
 vectors of Hecke curves and the discriminantal hypersurface associated
 with the Hitchin map. One of the applications of this duality relation
 is a simple  proof of the non-abelian Torelli theorem.
