Equivariant cohomology and degeneracy loci

We will show how some basic ideas and constructions from
equivariant cohomology relate to formulas for degeneracy
loci in algebraic geometry.  In particular, we will see
Schubert polynomials arising naturally this way, as in
recent work of Knutson and Miller.
