Title: 1-relator groups and Heegaard splittings

Abstract: We show that if M is a fibered, oriented 3-manifold, then
every
1-relator presentation of M is induced by a Heegaard splitting.  A
corollary is that rank equals "restricted" Heegaard genus for fibered,
oriented 3-manifolds with 1-relator fundamental groups.
